Entrances and Security

Children are not allowed to enter school through the car park and gate into the KS2 playground.

Car parks are dangerous places for children to be. It is this reason that AET, the academy sponsors, have decided that the main entrances into the school are

  • the gate from the path on Dulverton Grove
  • the gate opposite the shops where Nursery children enter
Children in KS1 (Yrs 1 and 2) will need to enter through the gate opposite the shops. The gate will be opened at 8:50 to allow pupils to get ready for registration at 9:00am.

At 3:15pm they will leave the building by the same door and parents/carers should pick their children up from the KS1 playground.

Children in KS2 (Yrs 3,4,5,6) will enter school either by the gate from the path which leads directly onto the KS2 playground or the gate opposite the shops. Those children who enter by the gate opposite the shops, walk along the path bordering the school field, down the steps and follow the pathway around the rear of school to reach the KS2 playground. It must be noted that no adults will be permitted to accompany pupils on this route.

At 3:15pm all children will leave the school in the same way (but in reverse).

Children attending Breakfast Club should enter the site through the gate from the path on Dulverton Grove.

School doors are open at 8:50 am for children to enter school, ready for the registers to be taken at 9:00am.

No child should be on the school premises before 8:45am unless they are in Breakfast Club.

Any KS2 child meeting parents at the KS1 playground area will be brought out of school via a ‘walking bus’ each night.

If you need to put your child onto the walking bus, please come to the office to complete the paperwork.

Please be reminded that you must not walk over school grounds (ie the school field or paths that run behind the buildings) as a short-cut from KS1/EYFS to or from KS2. We need to know who is on site at all times and if you do this we cannot take account of everybody.

Please be aware that there is a keypad on the main office gate from the car park. If you need to come to the school office outside of the normal registration period you will be asked to wait at the gate until a member of staff can come to greet you and bring you inside. This is to ensure that nobody is ‘tailgating’ you as you come in and is as much for your own protection as it is the school’s.

Due to safeguarding procedures any adult who has not been signed in to the school office should not be on the school grounds unattended. This also includes parents bringing children to breakfast club.

Following the recent tragic events in Manchester and London we are adding in some additional measures to our safeguarding procedures and need to remind you of some points regarding picking up and dropping off your children.

Previously, the KS2 gate was opened in time for you to come and wait in the playground as the children are getting ready to finish for the day. The gate will now be opened at 3:15pm, the end of the school day, and then locked again at 3:30pm. This will allow us to staff the gate which we cannot do from an earlier point. Please do not arrive early as you will have to wait on the path outside school and you may get wet as there is no cover available there.

The pick up point for after school clubs has been changed to the bottom gate by nursery for all pupils.

We appreciate that this is a very difficult time and would like you to be reassured that all of our risk-assessment procedures in relation to safeguarding are up to date and have been fully audited very recently. We continue to amend these procedures in light of any new information that is received and we are working, as are all local schools, with the police force during this time. Should you require any support in speaking to your child about how to keep themselves safe in the event of such an incident, or in any other scenario, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher who will be able to advise further.
